Smile, Winter is coming

I'm more of a Summer guy, but Winter does have its rewards. Bulky sweaters, hot chocolate, bracing walks in the park, long scarves and warming fires... that does sound quite nice, right?

Here I've been indulging some of these Winter passions on the Onyx Isle sim, which is a sort of snowy wonderland with winding paths, a skating rink complete with hot chocolate stand and some great builds to thaw those winter chills.

Little Warehouse Pt.2

Following up my previous post, here are a few more fashion shots and images of the decor I've used in Bauwerk's Little Warehouse skybox for this month's Challenge round.

Some general words on the build: it's Mesh (land impact of 44 prims) and features high ceilings, exposed ventilation ducting and monumental florescent style lighting that is fully and individually controllable via a central panel. Notably the intensity of each fixture can be set so you don't overpower the space with light, as is often the case. The build also makes use of large skylights and full length windows to bring quite a lot of natural light into the box. It works nicely as a lofty home/office space as I've done, but I can also see it being used in a role play setting.

The fashion here is again from this month's Mens Dept, + a new release from Apple May and a special thanks to the creators at (Red)Sand for providing their excellent Hooligan skin, which I'll undoubtedly show again. Oh, and all poses in this and my previous post from Saal Body. Thanks Alon!

Bang A Drum

It's almost spring and love is in the air, or maybe not cause it doesn't feel like spring where I am. But with this endless winter drawing to a close it's time to make some noise - and that's what I'm doing thanks to Balaclava's cool drums that you can pick up at the Arcade (75l per play). For those who don't want to try their hand at the Arcade (or are afraid of blowing all their lindens), yard sales are a good alternative. Two well-organized gacha sales I know about can be found here or here.

The Energy Club has been making noise for three years now and to celebrate they have a mess of group gifts out. That's where I got this excellent mesh outfit from D-Style (matching gift for women) as well as the couch from End of Daze (2nd pic), which I previously blogged but now you can get it free. Go check out the club and grab some gifts while you are there.

Also making noise is LaVie. The skin here is a recent group gift (unfortunately no longer available), but I'm told LaVie has a number of projects in the works including new skin releases, group gifts and perhaps a hunt or two. They have recently reopened in a revamped urban style shopping area with a number of top shops. Good to see they are back and bustling again.

Lavender Encore + 2 more

I love Breno's chair from the Lavender hunt so much that it deserved an encore, don't you think? See Part 1 for more pictures from this hunt and gift previews/hints can also be found on the hunt website. 

My models are the same as last time. The female is a very nice combination of a shape from Shape It Up! found at the Free*Style store for just 10l and a gift skin from Deesse's. The male is the same Kirk skin recently released from Essences - it's so nice I haven't wanted to take it off- here combined with Step Inside's shape from the SYSP anniversary hunt.

I'm also showing two outfits from 22769 to round out the post. I don't know how they do it but their designs always look great on the blog. Modularity

My last post on Four Walls concentrated on some of the rustic items, the grungy even. This time I wanted to feature the more modern gifts - those with clean lines and often modular in concept. Pieces such as Scarlet Creative's shelving units (the gift includes numerous versions that you can mix and match) or Breno's reading nook (part of a future modular series), work perfectly in Circa's "Infinity Cloud" Glass Studio from the hunt, which has cubed rooms off a main living space,  skylights with metallic highlights and panoramic glass windows (Mesh, 29 land impact). Four Walls goes to the end of the month and previews can be seen on the hunt website.

I'm wearing Diego, the new Mesh head from CheerNo, which is on sale at TDR Fusion until Feb 1. In a sense, with these mesh add-ons, be they heads, breasts, hands, feet or other appendages, the avi itself becomes modular, a base to which components can be added or subtracted at will depending on needs. CheerNo's head is interesting and can give a very realistic effect, but the lack of facial expressions can be a drawback. Some new releases shown below include Mens Dept items, a great shirt from HuHu (available with texture change hud) and an outfit from Apple May Designs, which is marking the opening of its new mens store with everything 50% off just this weekend (and a gift or two, gachas and some really impressive deals).

Four Walls

For the decor fans there are really some amazing hunts at the moment. The Four Walls hunt brings SL's top designers offering up some excellent gifts that should fit well with your design schemes. Gifts cost 20l so you need to choose wisely. Monochrome

I always think about color when I plan my blog posts, which is why I was looking forward to the latest hunt from Monochrome Hunts. Silver Lining is the second in a series of color-themed hunts - this time the theme is silver - and there is a nice range of items to be had (I'm featuring the furniture from Pestique, Circa & Estatica). The gifts cost 5L, but are worth far more than that - check their blog for photos of most of the gifts.

Today is also the last day I think for the Black Event on the Wash Sim, where I picked up some excellent textures from Timeless Textures and Far Concepts for only 10l that fit well with the theme of the post.

Baffled

Baffle is a great shop that is unfortunately closing in world and until November 11 everything is on sale for 55l. You can find an eclectic mix of pose props, decor and other items there, but the builds are truly special (see my Secret Garden post for another Baffle build I recently blogged).

Each design is totally unique and range from a domed floating home in the middle of the ocean, to a winter igloo complete with Polar bear or a creepy cottage with graveyard and hidden slaughter chamber. After rezzing them on the demo platform, I couldn't resist buying them all.

I've done some fashion shots below using Baffle's Le Petit Reve skybox from the sale, which is a fun approximation of a slightly grungy Paris apartment with some great texturing. See my next post for more shots of the build.
